Hair loss is one of the most unpleasant side effects of aging. By 50, many men and women suffer from hair loss.

To regain confidence and feel good about yourself again, undergoing a hair transplant procedure might be your best option.

In this article, Dr. Harikiran Chekuri, a renowned hair transplant surgeon, talks about hair transplant types, procedures, and the hair transplant cost in Hyderabad.

What is a Hair Transplant?

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure where tiny plugs of hair follicles are removed from one part of the body, usually the scalp, and then implanted into another area where the person is experiencing hair loss.

Dr. Harikiran Chekuri is a renowned hair transplant surgeon in India. He has over 14 years of experience and successfully treated many hair transplant patients.

Types of Hair Transplant

According to Dr. Harikiran, there are two main types of hair transplant procedures:

FUT

FUT stands for follicular unit transplantation. FUT removes sections of hair from a person’s back side of the head (donor site) and implants them into their hair-thinning or balding areas (recipient site).

The sections of hair removed from the donor site are typically 1-inch wide and 1-inch long.

FUE

FUE stands for follicular unit extraction. This procedure is a type of hair transplant that uses a small punch-like device to remove tiny, individual hair grafts from the back of the scalp.

FUE is a newer hair restoration technique compared to FUT. The grafts are then implanted into the hair-thinning or balding areas of the scalp. This process is often less invasive and typically leaves more minor scars than FUT, though this can vary from person to person.

FUE is more expensive than FUT.

Why Should You Get a Hair Transplant?

Getting a hair transplant is a very effective treatment for hair loss and thinning hair. It is considered to be the gold standard for treating hair loss. A hair transplant is recommended when:

  • Genetics
  • If you are a male with male pattern baldness
  • If you are a woman who has thinning hair
  • If you are experiencing hair loss due to extreme stress or poor nutrition

How is a Hair Transplant Performed?

The procedures of the common hair transplants are as follows:

FUT Procedure

  • Your surgeon will use a scalpel to take out a strip of the skin from your scalp from the back of your head. Generally, the incision is a few inches long.
  • This incision is then closed with stitches.
  • Your surgeon will next divide the severed scalp into small bits using a magnifying lens and a surgical knife. When implanted, these portions will aid in developing your natural-looking hair.

FUE Procedure

  • Your surgeon will start by shaving the procedure area and the area from which the follicles will be extracted (also called the donor side).
  • Then the surgeon will remove your hair follicles by using a tool called a micro punch tool.
  • Then your surgeon will make tiny incisions with a needle or sharp tool on the procedure area. The extracted particles will be inserted here.
  • Your surgeon will then insert the follicles into the incisions they have made.
  • Then the treatment area will be cleaned and bandaged for recovery.
  • A hair transplant procedure generally takes about 4 hours or more to complete.
  • You might need 3-4 sessions to get your head full of hair. There will be some time between the sessions for each transplant to heal.
  • Typically, hair transplant cost in Hyderabad is more for FUE than FUT. FUE is a more advanced technique and leaves less scarring.

Hair Transplant Cost in Hyderabad

The hair transplant cost in India varies from city to city and clinic to clinic. It is substantially lower than other countries around the world.

The hair transplant cost in Hyderabad depends on factors like the number of grafts, which method of hair transplant is used, level of baldness, etc., says Dr. Harikiran.

If you see hair transplant costs in Hyderabad by the price of grafts, the cost ranges between Rs. 20 to Rs. 120 grafts. Each graft contains around 1 to 4 hair follicles.
